Jesse Louis Jackson – shown here in 1958 at Sterling High School’s homecoming game in Greenville, S.C. – was his team’s quarterback and, in 1959, enrolled at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on a football scholarship.
Jesse Jackson chose a different field. Football’s loss was America’s gain.
RIP Rev. Jesse L. Jackson (1941-2026).
